When I moved to Sardinia I was enraptured by the art, history and culture of this wonderful land. Through archaeological sites, museums and libraries, I was able to travel throughout the millennia, understanding how the need for storytelling, creativity, the importance of documenting and interpreting human feelings have always pushed mankind towards art and beauty. Travelling through the millennia, I have come to contemporary art, that of wonderful Sardinian artists who have now entered the history books, such as Costantino Nivola, Maria Lai, Pinuccio Sciola, and Edina Altara. During this very personal journey, I met living artists who work on the island every day, torn between the limits it imposes and the strength of its inspiration, immersed in the land where they live but tenaciously projected outwards because art is a universal language. It’s a language that unites and my curiosity about their work was the door through which I walked through to get to know them, to enter their studios, to let me explain their artistic research until I could photograph their works.

Some of them have become dear friends, friends that I esteem and admire for their work, their empathy and availability, the desire to promote art despite the difficulties and unfortunately, the general indifference. But art is something overwhelming. If you fall in love with it you can no longer do without it even as a mere spectator, because the breath of artists is contagious and opens up new worlds, not always easy to understand but infinitely fascinating.

That’s why I’ve included a meeting with an artist among the experiences that I would propose to anyone who wants to live an intense journey. The opportunity to enter the artist’s studio, to tell their story, to understand what research led them to use particular materials, from where their exploration of the human soul to be able to touch the deepest chords through their works.

Have you ever thought how nice it could be to sit in a studio and see a work of art created, to see the evolution of an artist’s research through the works they hold most dear to them in their studio, to see their artistic production exactly where it was born and created and who knows, maybe buy a piece, because sometimes when you know the creator of the piece, it becomes something extremely intense and alive that you can take home with you.
